Place-based education is sometimes termed as education for sustainability. It is hands-on, project based, and related to something in the real world. At Goodwin College, the South Meadow and Crow Point Connecticut River floodplains are used to engage students in discovering the importance of floodplains to functioning river ecosystems. This is accomplished through field trips, active research and community engagement projects.
