Abstract

A review of literature was completed to determine the risk factors associated with an unsafe sleep environment resulting in SIDS or SUID deaths of infants. Several articles were used to support this current trend and to address the need for a comprehensive program to address infant safe sleep practice education for families, and health care professionals. SIDS is not completely preventable, but many more cases of SIDS and other sleep related deaths can be prevented by educating parents on how to implement strategies we already know will save lives.
